Welcome to The Soup!

soupmosaicMy coworkers and I went to a taping of The Soup last night (it airs tonight at 10pm on E! Network).  Not going to lie, I’ve really only seen the show a couple of times… however, it was a lot of fun!  I’ve never been to a taping of a show and it was interesting to see how it all goes down behind the scenes.  This show is SUPER low budget and is only a 30 minute show, however it was a lot of fun.  The host, Joel McHale was a lot of fun and very friendly with the audience (which was only about 30-40 people).  In the front row was a famous host across the pond- Europe (read: we had no fing clue who he was) but Joel kept chatting with him about the differences of their shows.  For one, EuroHost has gotten three free cars (one which he did not accept… and it was an Ashton Martin).  Joel about flipped his lid as his free car count is CERO (zero).  Poor guy… all he gets is a shitton of free designer clothing… (read: wtf?! how do I become famous!?). haha 😉  We really had a fun time hanging out and watching it all be done.  We had an opportunity to meet Joel at the end who asked if we were  a sorority… no, in fact, we all work together.  Joel responded with “UM WHERE?!” 😉  We’ve got a fun group of girls!

Note: In case you were wondering… why yes that is a nose, gun and pill bottle hanging from the ceiling in the middle photo…

Woots! 😀  Have a wonderful weekend… it’s going to be a fun one… SIX MAN in Manhattan Beach!

You Suck At Craigslist (.com)

Oh man.  Someone sent me this link today and the below was by far my favorite post… first of all, genius!— why didn’t I think of that?!  Secondly, I just love sarcasm… so amazing.

Adult Size Spider Man – $30

This is a nice item to have in your home if you want to sit on the sofa as a decoy when you are not home. Or, you can let your busy kids jump all over him. You can even ride Spider Man in your vehicle when you are traveling alone because he looks so real. He is taking up a lot of space here and we just don’t have a need for him any more. So, take this good old boy home with you. He comes from a pet free and smoke free home. He is in excellent condition. He remains in the sitting position that you see in the below picture.

Yes, that’s right, you can use Spiderman here as a dummy passenger in your car so you can drive in the HOV lanes because he looks so realistic. The first thing a cop will think is “Oh, that car is fine; it has one person driving and Spiderman in the front seat. That’s totally normal.”

And who would be stupid enough to rob a house when Spiderman is sitting on the couch watching TV? While wearing mittens and footies? With his head rolled back as though he’s been on a three-day meth and mezcal binge? NOBODY, that’s who. I mean, that would be like robbing a house protected by a lifesized cutout of Bea Arthur. It just isn’t done in civilized society.

The Perfect Ice Cream

articA friend just told me about this “Artic Zero” ice cream.  It’s 134 calories for a PINT.  Yes, you read that right… a WHOLE PINT is only 134 calories.  I’m sure you’re thinking: “Well Heather, it’s probably jammed with chemicals!”  To which I say: “Well blog reader, its actually ALL natural!”  To which you may say: “Well Heather, you’re lactose intollerant… I don’t want to sit next to you after you eat that.”  To which I’d reply: “It’s LACTOSE FREE!”  You may then ask “Well, does it taste like water?!”  And I would let you know that I don’t know (yet)…  I’ve heard great things though from a friend of mine and am definitely looking to pick it up.  Have you tried it before?  Apparently you can get it at your local Bristol Farms (I can’t even remember the last time I was in a BF!)  YUM!

Sunday Seven

Okay, so it’s Tuesday… but let’s be honest, you know I’ve had a rough few days. Today was no different. I broke down again at work (so much is going on with me beyond work and frustration but also physically) but it’s nothing I can’t get through. I sent BD an email just saying how I didn’t know how to calm down and this was his response:

Stop stressing about this stuff babe, a year from now, two years from now these things aren’t going to matter. Just focus on the tasks at hand and look at the cup half full.
If you don’t then you are just wasting your time. Address what’s in front of you, forget about what’s behind you and don’t pay attention to the rest.
And remember that you have 3 boat loads of people that love and care about you.
And don’t forget I love you. (Grandma says hi)

How amazing is he?  I was able to do a lot of cool things over the last week, but I decided to go through my pictures on my iPhone (and I grabbed one from facebook so I could get KG in there) and grab pictures of people who I’d recently seen and who are part of my boat. 🙂

1. MS- who will be MA on 9/25/10.  Such an amazing woman.  I’m so excited for this wedding and that two of the most amazing people I know will be married forever.  SUCH good things to come!! (With her permission I’ll update you on her nuptials)

2.  JD.  The only sister to BD… a woman I hope to one day be able to call my sister.  She’s full of so much life and so potential.  So excited to watch her grow up.

3.  My best friend sister and my best friend.  Simple as that

4.  Isn’t she the most beautiful bride?!  Another best friend from high school who I was so blessed to see this weekend.  She threw a great dinner party at her and her husband’s house.  I only got one picture unfortunately, but will let you know more about that later.  That girl has turned into such an amazing wife and quite the party thrower!

5.  Kicker Joe!  Our little kicker.  I’m so proud of him and how hard he’s working (despite what that picture looks like).  He’s been working his tail off to earn a spot as the place kicker for USC.  Keep your eyes pealed for #30

6.  My Papa Bear.  BD’s roommate and truly my best guy friend.  He means the world to me and always fills me with laughter (and cocktails). 😉  He’s family.

7.  RIP Fishie!!  I know, this one seems a little out of place… but I LOVE pets.  I want a kitty so so badly (really want a dog, but can’t afford one and don’t have the time for one) but have had this beta fish for about a year.  So dorky, but I loved waking up and feeding him and coming home and feeding him.  He’d been practicing to become a synchronized swimmer recently… doing back flips, head stands for hours… turns out he won’t be making it to the next Summer Olympics.  RIP Master P (that’s a long and disturbing story of how I got that name… for another time)

Obviously, there are so many people that affect my day every day.  But these are a few randos that brought spars to my life this week 🙂

Family to the Rescue…

Tonight I missed an Angel game because a coworker got slammed in the office… and we carpooled.  I was most excited about this game because BD was there and had the other set of tickets.  Anyway, after four isolated incodents of terrible news I figured it was time to get my butt a ride home before I started crying at work (again).  Fortunately for me (and my dignity) another coworker who lives near me was heading home.  I quickly closed up shot and caught myself a ride home.  On the drive it took everything inside of me from not bawling.  It was just, overall, an absolteuly horrendous day.  Nothing went my way, I ended up back at square one on a few different things in my life… I complained, she listened.  I then asked how her weekend was.  She told me she went back to SD (her hometown) to be with her roommate’s family (who is also from SD).  Turns out her roommate’s father was given a few days to live (Pancreatic cancer).  HELLO real life.  I looked at her and said “thank you.”  She looked at me bewildered and I said…. “I’m so so sorry for your roommate, truly my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and I couldn’t fathem what she’s going through.  Also, thank you for reminding me how trivial the things that I’m going through right now are.”  She tried to say no no, that we all have our bad days and that she wasn’t trying to lessen my problems.  I knew that wasn’t the point, but I was so grateful that I randomly hitched this ride home with her and was brought back to reality.  Mind you, her roommate is a HUGE wedding freak (like I am).  She reads blogs, watches the shows, loves all of the magazines.  As son as she told me about her father my heart sunk… I immediately went to her walking down the aisle without her Daddy. 😦

Nevertheless, the second I stepped into the door at my apartment the tears began to fly off of my face.  I went to see my parents and just said “I know God has a plan, and I know life is so much bigger than all of these little obstacles, and I know I’ve gone through worse and will go through worse… but right now I’m really sad and bummed and I need to cry because I’m so frustrated!”  My mom smiled and said “Tonight you get your pitty party.  You get to cry and say woe is me.  But tomorrow, tomorrow you’re over this.  Tomorrow you accomplish new and great things.” To which I replied, “Okay, but right now I’m going to cry.”  She smiled and asked if I wanted a glass of wine… obviously I said yes.  I then began to sing.  A song to the tune of “Oh Happy Day”… except the words to this were “Ooohhh crraappppyyy ddaayy” (mom echoed: Oh crappy day).  Our song was interupted by a knock on my door.  It was my best friend sister with a bottle of wine, a warm hug and two great ears.  How blessed am I?

wilhiteTo top things off, I got a phone call from BD at the game.  He saw a Wilhite jersey for sale.  You know, my friend/hero/most awesomest person ever who survived the Nick Adenhart crash (which also took the lives of Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson)…. yea, they were selling TWO jerseys with his name on it.  BD asked if I wanted it and I said YES!  I’m going to have him sign it and it’s going to be with the rest of my memorabilia (football signed by Coach Carroll, basketball signed by the USC bball team, SD Chargers jersey signed by LT)… yup, it’s going to go right up there.  And it’s going to be a great reminder that all the little problems are so silly… that life is so much bigger than you and I, but that we also have so much control over your life and destiny.  There is a reason that you’re here on the planet… there’s a reason God kept you alive… so you better work your butt off to be the best you that you can be.  And be so grateful for every moment you’re given.

Thanks family.

Not such a good day

My Dad always says that we all have our ups and downs.  You’ll have times when life really is not so hot (see me in high school) then you’ll have times when you feel like you’re on top of the world (see me at SC) and then… you’ll go back to that low dip.  Well, hello dip… you haven’t been missed, and I’m sorry that I’m back here.  But like Dad said… this is life.  Today I’ve gotten a handful of bad news and feel like I’m hitting a wall… went into the bathroom at work to cry kind of wall haha.  But, then I saw this (image posted below).  And while I so do not feel this way at all… I know I will again.  I know I have to keep my chin up and keep running so I can get back to the top of the hill.  I wish life would stay at the top of the hill… but then again, then it wouldn’t be life.  We wouldn’t be able to see how strong we are, we wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate the good and we wouldn’t really be able to feel.  So here’s to the bad days/months… and here’s to hopes of feeling like this again:

Happy Monday world… keep your chin up.

Happy Birthday Angel

Four years ago today we were celebrating his 21st birthday… that was the last birthday he would be able to have.  Miss you brother.  Love you.  Hope you’re celebrating in heaven.
